Jacó Scar is a “mixing bowl” of species found in other parts of the world, Seid says. The eelpout is part of a medley of other species that form Jacó Scar’s composite ecosystem, along with, for example, clams typically found at cold seeps and bacteria found at hydrothermal vents. jaco to its vent-living relatives, researchers may be able to figure out how it adapted to live in the tepid waters of the Scar - which may provide clues to how other species living there did too. It may have to do with the fact that methane seeps are more common than previously thought on the ocean floor, and if some are lukewarm like Jacó Scar, the new species could have used them as refuges while moving east.Īnd by comparing P. The new finding raises questions about how the known Pyrolycus species came to live so far apart. A Pyrolycus jaco specimen is shown freshly collected (top), preserved (middle) and in X-rays superimposed over the fresh image (bottom). Of the 24 known fish species that live only at hydrothermal vents, “13 of them are eelpouts,” Frable says. The first eelpouts most likely evolved in cold waters, Frable says, but many have since made their home in the scalding waters of hydrothermal vents. “I did not know that genus existed,” Frable says.īecause the other two known Pyrolycus species live far away in the western Pacific and have different physical features, the team dubbed the mystery fish P. Møller narrowed the enigmatic eelpout to the genus Pyrolycus, meaning “fire wolf.” Turns out, the tool, called a dichotomous key, that Frable had been using to identify the specimens was outdated, made before Pyrolycus was described in 2002. “I just was not really getting anywhere.” So the team turned to eelpout expert Peter Rask Møller of the Natural History Museum of Denmark in Copenhagen, sending him X-rays, pictures and eventually one of the fish specimens. Eelpouts are a diverse family of fish comprised of nearly 300 species that can be found all over the world at various ocean depths.īecause the physical differences between species can be subtle, they are “kind of a tricky group” to identify, Frable says. But he was having trouble determining what type. They look exactly as one would expect based on their name: like frowning eels, though they aren’t true eels. Charlotte Seid, an invertebrate biologist at Scripps who is working on a checklist of organisms found at the Costa Rican seeps, brought the fishy finds to ichthyologist Ben Frable, also of Scripps, for formal identification.įrable says he knew the fish was an eelpout. Several more specimens were snagged during later submersible dives. She recalls the team finding and collecting one of the fish during this early excursion, but the researchers didn’t recognize it as a new species. Levin was on one of the first expeditions to the Scar but wasn’t involved in the new study. It is “a really diverse place” with many different organisms living in various microhabitats, says Lisa Levin, a marine ecologist at Scripps Institution of Oceanography in La Jolla, Calif. Jacó Scar was discovered during exploration of a known field of methane seeps off the Costa Rican coast and named for the nearby town of Jacó.

The GNOME 3 desktop is a little bare and the Live image doesn’t contain a lot of software so here is some suggestions to do after installing Fedora 23. Some things to do after installation (additional software) Or install the wireless drivers – that’s the only thing that will require some additional work (see below why).ģ. Get a USB adapter (the simplest possible). One annoying thing that I was aware of before buying is that you can’t connect a network cable (due to the small form factor). I get approximately 6-7 hours of operation with a full battery. Pretty much everything works directly, even the touch screen (from Elan). What works and what doesn’t work out of the box Now you should be able to boot straight to Fedora.Ģ. Under General –> Boot Sequence, click on Add Boot Option and then, on the third box, enter “\EFI\BOOT\BOOTX64.EFI” (or browse to it with the button on the right, see image above). On a reboot, at the DELL logo, enter the BIOS again by pressing F2. Rather annoying since I wiped out Windows at the beginning of the installation … The issue is that the UEFI boot doesn’t know where to look for what to boot … One issue I had is that, on reboot, the laptop didn’t want to boot Fedora (it didn’t want to boot anything, actually). Your laptop is ready to boot the Live image and to install it on the disk.

11/10/2023 0 Comments Sunblaze 44 reviewNevertheless, we had a lot of fun along the way, and each death made us more determined to get things right on the next try. We also didn’t manage to grab all the optional data cubes littering each level, which rewards players with “Hard” versions of the levels. This was after playing through the “normal” levels of the game, which also unlocked an even more challenging “Lost Levels” chapter. There is definitely a rhythm to the way things move and fall around Josie, but it is up to players to sync up to this flow instead of going against it.īy the time we watched Sunblaze’s credits scroll past, our death count was in the quadruple digits. Early levels can still be conquered by winging it, but later levels require players to take stock of the situation first and plan their route through the gauntlet of obstacles awaiting them. While quick reflexes are required to overcome the platforming challenges, the game almost veers more into puzzle territory at times. If players die, the level instantly resets and places them back at the start to try again. Each level is set in a single screen room, and usually, all that is needed to proceed is to collect a microchip. While the unforgiving difficulty of Sunblaze will undoubtedly scare away a lot of players, it is also a surprisingly accessible game. Players can generally complete each level in Sunblaze in under a minute, but before reaching that point, they can expect many, many deaths. Platforms unexpectedly give way beneath your feet, lasers shoot deadly beams all over the place, lethal spikes adorn almost every surface, and crushing blocks can turn Josie into a red smear if she ventures too close. This wouldn’t have been so bad if it wasn’t for the fact that pretty much everything in Sunblaze is deadly. Josie does not have a health bar, and instead, contact with anything deadly will result in instant death. Hiding underneath its pretty pixel art graphics is a game that delights in killing players at every opportunity. The game does a good job of easing players into the action, but it doesn’t take long to show its claws. With over 300 levels to conquer, Sunblaze is certainly not a game for anyone intimidated by precision platformers. It is up to players to help Josie overcome the rogue AI in control of the training room and make her way back to reality. Unfortunately, her training turns into a matter of life or death when she becomes trapped inside his training simulator. Josie, aka Sunblaze, is a superheroine in training who is eager to follow in the footsteps of her superhero father. Thus it came as no surprise when this is precisely what happens in Sunblaze. If there is one thing we’ve learned from special training simulations such as the Holodeck and the Danger Room, it is that sooner or later, they will go haywire and try to kill you. 11/10/2023 0 Comments Winfo edu“We are exploring the topic of how information interacts with pretty much everything at this point - how do we process it? Finally, remove golden keys if you intend to dual boot Windows or install Windows at a later date. Once you have a completely fresh install (or have wiped the eMMC) you can use the jailbreak usb to install golden keys and then run yahallo. Be warned, now that Windows 8.1 is EOL, the store no longer works and cannot be used to reinstall apps. You must download an image as the recovery partition will not work for this. The easiest way is to download and install the official 8.1 recovery image for you device as these pre date the patch. Microsoft patched the golden keys exploit, but fortunately for Tegra devices this can be reversed. For UEFI booting it is recommended to install yahallo. Due to its added complexity it is discussed at the end of this page. APX currently offers considerably better performance, but it has the disadvantage of always needing "jump leads". As of February 2023 'the exploit' can load U-boot (and subsequently the linux/Android kernel) on the Surface RT, but is limited to one CPU core.Ĭonsequently, the Surface RT has two boot options: APX or UEFI. Work continues on an UEFI privilege escalation to disable TrustZone memory protection and consequently gain full control of the hardware. TrustZone is still active, but recent changes to the Linux kernel (~5.11) allowed this to be automatically avoided. It can be applied with the help of golden keys. Yahallo is a new (2020) Tegra exploit that effectively turns off secure boot permanently. Secure boot and memory TrustZone are still active. It allows a self-signed Windows boot manager app to run and in turn an UEFI app such as GRUB 2. Golden keys has been available since late 2016. This removes all the restrictions of the UEFI firmware. For Tegra 3 based devices there is the USB tethered Fusée Gelée exploit.Thankfully we now have a number of workarounds available to us: There is no doubt that secure boot has been a major hurdle in putting Linux on Windows RT devices. More information on hardware including touch/type covers can be found here. This page makes a distinction between the two machines as they boot Linux differently, so follow the instructions for your device. It is important you know your model so that you can use the correct Device Tree Blob (DTB). Many Surface 2 owners are unaware they have a Surface 2 because both machines are labelled with 'Surface/Windows RT' under the kickstand! If your device has a black rear then you have the Tegra 3 (T30) based Surface RT, but if it is silver grey then you have the Tegra 4 (T114) based Surface 2. The DP-X1A looks a little bit like a phone, but much thicker with two audio ports – one headphone jack and one balanced output for those interested in a cleaner and overall better quality sound. We think the Onkyo DP-X1A is one of the best MP3 players you can buy, as it offers lots of customizability, an intuitive interface and fantastic sound. On top of that it has a slim design that can fit in your pocket for when you’re on the go.Ī little chunky compared to the competition It can support audio sources above both CD and DAT quality – our tests suggest it has a DAC chipset that operates at a native 24bit/96kHz resolution. If you’re looking for a dedicated hi-res audio player, then straight out of the box the Sony NW-A306 boasts an impressive spec sheet. But there’s no denying that the positives outweigh here. During our testing, we found that the menu could be a little unresponsive, the battery capacity would vary and it surprisingly sounded like it struggled when playing a standard 128kbps audio file, which all together let down our all-round experience just a tad (well, by half a star to be exact). Where the NW-A306 is let down is not in its primary function but slight niggles with its all round usability. The Sony NW-A306 was released in 2023 and we’re so thankful that Sony did decide to make a comeback with this nostalgic audio device – the tape cassette interface is a nice retro touch too. Not only is it part of Sony’s new Walkman lineup, but it’s built to handle incredibly high quality audio files for a price point that is much more affordable than what’s available on the market. There’s a lot going for this little hi-res digital audio player. You've got so many great options, such great sound, and such high-spec parts that it's very easy to look at the saving and decide it's worth putting into a nice high-capacity microSD card instead of its higher-priced rival.ĭevice heats up quite quicklyA little chunky compared to the competition The Fiio M11S does an excellent job of gently undercutting its closest rival, the Astell & Kern a&norma SR25 Mk II. There's lots to love here including an Android 10 operating system with a touchscreen that's smooth and responsive, a punchy, controlled and detailed sound and a premium build. The treble is perhaps a little on the bright side, but not so much that we'd consider it a deal breaker. It has more than enough headroom to dispatch the big dynamic shifts with no difficulty, and it can also describe a big, wide and properly defined soundstage. The M11S is insightful enough to make minor or transient information apparent, and it can describe the most nuanced dynamic variations in a solo instrument with ease. But there’s still competition from premium audio brand Onkyo, and with Sony making a comeback with the Walkman, there’s plenty of choice. It’s just that when they do and you’re using, let’s say, one of the best Dolby Atmos soundbars, you might find flaws in the music quality.įor those that would rather listen to studio quality sound through a hi-res audio download (rather than sacrificing it via Bluetooth, which doesn’t have a high enough bandwidth), then you’ll need a digital audio player that can handle a higher sampling frequency and bitrate, which we have rounded up for you here.ĭon’t expect to find classics like the iPod on our list (Apple discontinued that in May 2022), instead brands like FiiO and Astell & Kern seem to have cornered the market with their versatile range of hi-res audio players to suit many different needs and budgets. To be clear, there’s nothing wrong with using one of the best smart speakers or best headphones to listen to the best music streaming services. In fact, a lot of these can stream high quality music in formats like Dolby Atmos. 11/10/2023 0 Comments Dendrite nervous systemPostganglionic neurons of autonomic nervous system.ĭendrites (in Greek it means "tree") are branched protrusions from the neuron's soma that transmit post-synaptic potentials to it. The motor molecule for fast retrograde transport is a form of dynein, which is also a microtubule-associated ATPase. The mechanisms of fast transport in the two directions are similar but not identical.Īs in fast anterograde transport, particles move along microtubules. They contain the recycled neurotransmitters and different substances from the extracellular medium: e.g., nerve growth factors synthesized by the target cell that stimulates the growth and maintenance of neurons, and/or inform the cell body about events that occur at the distant ends of axonal processes.įurthermore, neurotropic viruses and toxins ( herpes simplex, rabies, polio, tetanus toxin), HRP and other tracing substances, can be retrogradely transported. Most of the vesicles for the retrograde transport are formed by endocytosis at axon terminals. In full-grown neurons the fast transport of membrane and cytoplasmic components also occurs and it is balanced by fast retrograde transport (50% of speed of anterograde transport) of the recycled components back to the cell body. Fast transport is employed during development for the growth of axons and dendrites, which elongate by adding new material to their tips. Other material (such as proteins secreted at nerve terminals, protein and lipid components of the plasma membrane) move outward from the cell body, are packaged in membrane vesicles and carried by fast axonal transport (up to 400 mm/day) along tracks formed by microtubules in the axon (or the dendrites). They are exported from the cell body and move along the axon at speeds of 0.5 tdick is life thoo 5 mm/day – slow axonal transport. The most plentiful proteins in the axon are the proteins forming the microtubules, neurofilaments and actin filaments ( microfilaments). Proteins and other substances must be provided by the synthetic apparatus in the cell body and transported along the axon. Metabolic activity (biosynthesis) in axons is limited (there are no ribosomes, endoplasmic reticulum, golgi body). Most of the projecting neurons send axon collaterals into the local neuronal circuits, some of the neurons of local circuits send axons collateral toward more distant structures – no distinct functional difference between the two classes of neurons. It passes into initial segment, which differs from the next part of axon in the special functional properties of its membrane (low threshold – high excitability due to densely packed Na +-VGCs). The axon arises from the soma (or sometimes from a dendrite) in a specialized region called the axon hillock. The neuron contain dendrites that receive information, a cell body called the soma, and an axon that sends information. 11/10/2023 0 Comments Asus armoury crate compatibilityIf you would, please keep the dock connected to the computer with monitor(s) connected to the docking station (even though one may not be working) and attach the output of our diagnostic utility PlugDebug ( ) to an email to ‘ with the subject line ‘Ticket #384623 - Attention Pat’ as this will allow us to examine some log files from your system to help determine the next steps.
